Are you feeling mad that an asinine person has been nominated and can potentially be elected to the highest office in this nation? Don’t just sit on your butt and complain about it. You have been granted a very powerful tool, a tool so powerful that few societies in the history of humankind has allowed its members to utilize it. In the societies that did allow this tool, many of its elite members blocked the weak, poor and women from using it. The power to vote and for that vote to count equally amongst others is a powerful tool. The history of suffrage is one that every member of the nation should be familiar with. It is through elections that our voices are heard. It is through the democratic process that our leaders are held accountable. It is through this process that change can occur. Do not allow feelings that you are just one person hold you back from voting. Do not allow the feeling that the elections are rigged by corporate interests to hold you back. Do not allow the feeling that nothing will change to hold you back this election year. Get together with your communities and hold registration booths and programs. Hold your local elected officials accountable and show them that the Muslim community is a vocal constituency and that we will not be silenced during this election cycle. We will hold our leaders accountable for any blatant Islamophobia.
“Elections belong to the people. It’s their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the people and burn their behinds, then they will have to sit on their blisters” Abraham Lincoln
